I've been driving a lot of shuttles lately which means that I get to meet most of our guest either before or after their trip. While I wasn't super excited to spend most of my summer on the road it has been surprisingly rewarding! I get to meet everyone before their float and get to know them a little. We talk about what will happen on the trip, what they hope to get out of it, and usually the whitewater they will be going through. I also enjoy seeing the shock on people's faces, usually the kids, when they realize they will be without cell service for several days. That's one of the great things about river trips, you don't have all the distractions of home and it gives you time to really connect with your friends and family.
I really enjoy meeting everyone at the takeout after the trip, they're so excited to recap their last few days. All the excitement of the rapids they went through, or the cool hike they did, or the rapid they flipped the inflatable kayak in. Usually the whole shuttle from the takeout they are recapping the past few days, so vividly that I almost feel like I was on the trip with them.
